Everyone plays a role on a team. The magic (and sometimes the madness) comes from how well we understand and own that role.
A Leasing Consultant is the resident’s best friend — a friendly shield for the assistant manager and the first face of the community.
An Assistant Manager is the bridge — balancing residents, numbers, and keeping the business side of the house running smoothly.
A Property Manager is the leader — the one who sets the tone, protects the culture, and makes the tough calls.
A Maintenance Team is the heartbeat — they keep the community moving, safe, and livable.
When those roles are unclear? Whew. Chaos.
When I first started in property management, my first week was… let’s just say a little wild. The maintenance team was arguing so loudly it looked like a fight might break out in the leasing office. The leasing consultant refused to listen to the assistant manager. And the property manager? He locked himself in his office and shut the door.
I remember thinking, “What the fudge did I just walk into?”
But over time, I realized this wasn’t a broken team — it was a family without clarity. They weren’t fighting because they didn’t care. They were frustrated because no one understood exactly how their role fit into the bigger picture.
So my role wasn’t to play peacemaker. It was to create clarity.
I showed the assistant manager how to approach accounting with confidence.
I reminded the maintenance crew of the professional norms that earn respect.
I encouraged the property manager to step out of his office and lead with purpose.
Little by little, clarity replaced the chaos. Not because I was some superhero, but because once everyone understood their role, the office started running like a team again.
That’s the thing about clarity: it doesn’t just help you. It helps everyone around you know how to work with you, rely on you, and respect you. And that’s when the real progress begins.
So this week, ask yourself: do I just “do my job,” or do I bring clarity to my role — and by doing so, lift the whole team?
Remember: Clarity doesn’t show up in chaos — you create it by defining your role, owning it, and helping your team do the same.

1 rotisserie chicken (shredded)
1 can garbanzo beans (drained + rinsed)
1 can white beans (drained + rinsed)
½ red onion (chopped)
1 cucumber (diced)
1 container cherry tomatoes (halved)
1 bunch parsley (chopped)
Handful of dried cranberries
Feta cheese to taste
For the Dressing:
½ cup olive oil
Juice of 1 lemon
1 tsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp honey
Pinch of salt

Toss everything into one big bowl.
Whisk the dressing together, pour over, and mix.

Answer framework: Stay calm, listen first, show empathy, then offer solutions.

“I listen carefully to their concern without interrupting, acknowledge their frustration, and explain what I can do within policy. If I can’t resolve it immediately, I give a clear timeline for follow-up. Even if I don’t have an update yet, I still follow up to let them know I’m working on it.
