GM. The first official week of summer is here AND It’s time to get to the VACAY! So let's get the ball rolling by rallying the team – your up-line, your co-workers, and of course, letting your mentor know!
The more you communicate in advance with them, the smoother your absence will be, earning you respect upon your return. Building trust and respect is foundational to your brand image, both within the office and professional circles. Last-minute vacation requests disrupt workflow and responsibilities.
Trust me, your future self will thank you for it! Here are a few tips to keep in mind
Check your PTO balance: Know how much you have to be OOO(out of the office). You are expected to be aware of this information before submitting your PTO request. and determine how much you wanna use now and in the future.
Know the rules: Check your company's policies. Duh that’s a no brainer.
Pick your style: Weekend getaway, staycation, or week-long retreat?
Write it down: Formal request, please! because you read the company policies.
Chat with your manager: Get the green light. Get the approval before you book that trip. Remember anything to eliminate less friction to your team the better. You gain more respect in the process.
Arrange coverage: Don't leave your team hanging. Arrange all your follow-ups, move-ins, etc. around your vacation, or give your co-workers the details on what to do while you’re out.
Spread the word: Let everyone know you're out. Set your OOO calendar and email response so folks know you’re not ignoring them and when you will return.
Update upon return: Show you're back in action. Change your OOO message and immediately return calls. Jumping back in shows your team, prospects, and residents that they are your priority.
And don’t forget to wear your Sunscreen wherever you go.
So, what's on the agenda for you this summer? I would love to know in the comments on tik tok post on Staycation ideas.

OFFICE HOURS
Need Help with Unfair Treatment at Work
Hi Good Morning Leasing,
I hope you're doing well. I need some advice on a problem I'm having at work.
My property manager plays favorites with my co-worker. I truly believe they hang out after work hours. Which is not a big deal but my co-worker gets special treatment like leaving early, taking long breaks, and not getting extra work like me. For example she left during work to go purchase a new car. She was gone for hours then took a lunch break by going to go get the manger food. We work near a University so we have tours every 20 minutes in groups. so a very busy summer. This is just one of the many examples of favoritism I can share.
I've talked to my manager about it, but nothing has changed. I feel frustrated and demotivated. Can you help me figure out what to do next?
Thanks
Friendly but Frustrated
Hi Friendly but Frustrated,
I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with this situation at work. It can be really tough when it feels like there's unfair treatment going on.
First off, it's good that you've tried talking to your manager about it. It's important to address these kinds of issues directly. Since you haven't seen any changes yet, it might be worth following up with your manager again with exact examples and this time document then in writing to your manager before the meeting. Expressing how the situation is affecting you with examples may help your manager see things from your perspective clearly.
If you're comfortable with it, you could also consider talking to your Regional Manager or someone in HR about what's been going on. They're there to help with these kinds of workplace issues and might be able to offer some guidance or support. But before taking these next steps already think about what would you like to see happen. What would be the ideal outcome your looking for and if you do not get that what is your next steps. Is transferring to another property an option? Or is it time for you to seek another position within another company? Only you know the answers to these questions.
In the meantime, try to focus on doing your best work and staying positive. It's not easy, but remember that you're valued for your hard work and dedication, regardless of what's going on with your co-worker. And if your manager can not see it someone else will.
I hope things improve for you soon.
Hang in there!
